Is a man a 'real man' if he doesn't get "Man Flu"?
For a week now i've been what i call 'a bit ill' - i've had a cold. My nose ran, i had neck ache, head ache, ear ache, i coughed, sneezed and wore a scarf - permanently. But it was a cold, NOT Man Flu.
Then again, Man Flu is just that - but it keeps the bloke bedridden, incapable of even wiping his brow and seeking 24/7 attention.
But because i don't do being ill, it didn't stop me from doing anything. I just got on with things. I thought that would make me seem more of a man! I was wrong.
Whilst I was working hard, proving my masculinity showing that nothing would stop me and my life... I had to suffer a colleague boasting, showing off and bragging that her bloke had Man Flu. What she was saying was that he's a bit ill and she was looking after him. I thought: "What a pansy".
But then it clicked, being a man is all about having Man Flu. It's an attribute rather than a weakness. Being brave, heroistic and, well, masculine is all well and good - most of the time. But the one time that showing those qualities has the opposite effect is when you have a cold. Real blokes call it Man Flu.
So Just for the record: I've got Man Flu. Well, I had it anyway.
