Recently I've been featuring new artists most notably as of recent-- Carbon Leaf and their album Indian Summer and an Artist called Dierdre and her album One.

This weekend I'll be featuring Deirdre's label mate from Canada, Jorane, she plays some Mellow Cello, with a voice similar to Tori Amos or Kate Bush it's some really interesting stuff. 8-)
Her album is called The You And the Now

In the past I did a special weekend for an old 60's band called Cartoone and I've exchanged several e-mails with the drummer of the band who sent me an MP3 of a song off of their unreleased album. 8-)

I just got back from seeing Laura Love in concert, she's a real gracious lady, and a "Real Person", I've yet to see her that she does not stay after the concert and sit and visit with her fans, chat, & sign autographs. Laura is a Scary good Bass player and a great singer / songwriter.

So for the weekend of June 18 & 19, I will be featuring Laura Love and her new album "You Ain't Got No Easter Clothes". Laura's musical styles encompass rock, folk, and traditional.

This weekends featured artist (July 2nd & 3rd) will be Emiliana Torrini an Icelandic and Italian singer. You will hear some similarity to Bjork in her singing, on this very "spare" recording. They decided not to add instumentation to the original tracks as the "spareness" made an excellent vehicle for her voice and choice of songs. Her latest album is called "Fisherman's Woman"

I will also be playing some songs by a group called "Vajara" an interesting mix of Rock, Pop, and Blues, played by a Tibeten Rock Band. The only English I found on the album were these words:
Vocals / Lead Guitar / Rhythm guitar / Bass / Drums & Tibetan Instrument everthing else was written in Sanskrit and Chinese.

"Vajara, Sanskrit for "Heaven Pestle," . . .

" . . . Songs in the album, featuring contemporary pop ingredients from blues, rock'n'roll to rap, won favorable media coverage and were frequently aired. They are still heard in pubs, clubs and cabs, even on pastures in remote areas. . . ."

This coming weekend I'll be featuring two groups The Decemberists on Saturday, July 16th & A local Salt Lake City band The Sister Wives on Sunday, July 17th

The Decemberists feature Petra Haden a recent featured artist as a guest performer. They offer a literate British Folk Based Rock.

The Sister Wives are an All Girl Blues Outfit and local favorite doing some really amazing live shows. I might even squeek in another local artist or two during the show.

My featured artist for July 23rd and 24th is- Micheal Nesmith former member of the Monkee's, he was the one with the wool hat. He was already an established songwriter prior to the Monkee's and a critically acclaimed writer/performer ever since, he has often been described as an early Country/Rock Pioneer and like Jimmy Buffet has created a sound all his own and a musical niche and rabid following also.. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Look forward to hearing this Bob, I remember him well from the early days of the Monkees, a very talented individual, but I've not heard much of his own work. If you compare him to Jimmy Buffet, then this is not to be missed.

My featured artist for July 30 & 31 is: Jim Hunter, hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland. His musical style is based on American Delta Blues and Folk & Scottish Traditional, his guitar style is mostly slide and bottle neck. Hope you tune in both Saturday and Sunday for a real musical treat.

My featured group this week (August 13 & 14) is: "Over The Rhine" Karen Berquist & Linford Detweiler are the core of "Over The Rhine" the backbone and the voice of the band. It appears the cast of supporting artists changes from album to album. "Drunkard's Prayer" their new album is a very tightly written and performed piece. Simplicity and subtly is the mark of this album. I'll be featuring this album this weekend as well as some cuts off of an earlier album also- "Films For Radio"

My featured artist this week is: Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. A totally underated 60's & 70's British Blues Rock outfit. I'll probably feature some Ten Years After and some of Alvin's later work with his touring bands & some solo work. 8-)

Alvin Lee has one song listed as one of the 100 all time greatest guitar solo's, a must listen for any Guitarist. It's a pretty safe assumption That I'll be playing it. 8-)
