How OTC Works

Off The Chart Radio: Block Header
The OTC broadcast comes to you from all over the world. DJs present from their own homes using a PC, playout software, a microphone and in many cases a mixer. All of our DJ's currently have a broadband internet connection which they use to stream audio to one of our two main servers based in Norfolk and Yorkshire.

The whole station is controlled by SAM Broadcaster v.3 (see screenshot below). This allows us to schedule every event within the station easily, from handovers to pre recorded and non stop playout shows.

Live DJ's stream at between 64k and 96k to one of the two servers using SimpleCast, which connects to one of our IceCast servers whilst the show is on air. IceCast then integrates with the main broadcast software, streaming the show at 128k and 32k simultaneously. If a fault develops the system automatically plays out music from our database whilst it attempts to reconnect the DJ.

Our broadcast servers run either Microsoft Windows XP or Server 2003, with connectivity provided by UK ISP Demon's network. Stream servers are UK based, hosted by Stream Solutions, running Debian Linux and Windows Server 2003.
